Help your child keep their New Year’s resolutions for school

Help your child keep their New Year’s resolutions for school
Many of us like making New Year’s resolutions. And kids are no exception. They like making New Year’s resolutions, too. Many of them make resolutions to improve their studies. However, like how fickle kids’ emotions are, their New Year’s resolutions could also evaporate easily if we will not help them fulfill those. So it is important for us, parents, to help our kids fulfill their New Year’s resolutions.
  1. Creating Plans
Making New Year’s resolutions is easy. Keeping them is difficult. However, we can be certain that keeping those is not impossible. We have to guide your kids in fulfilling their resolutions. And one way to do that is to create distinct plans.   For example, your kid wants to improve his or her studies, particularly his or her grades. Setting that goal solely will not really motivate them. What you could do is specifically organize the steps on how to achieve that goal. For instance, you conduct a personal tutorial for your kid for 1-2 hours daily. If they want to improve their grades, they need to work on the areas that need to be improved. So, a personal tutorial could help. Whatever the goal is, make sure to create a plan and follow the SMART approach (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound).
  1. Seek third-party help
Sometimes, conducting a personal tutorial for your kid is unachievable if you do not have enough time for that. In that case, you could seek third-party help. One way to keep the fire going in improving the child’s grades is to allow other people to motivate them constantly. For example, you could enroll your child in an enrichment program like SAM Singapore Math. For kids who love Math, this is one way to help them keep their New Year’s resolution of improving their studies.   SAM Singapore Math has a Problem Solving Curriculum which is unique and is designed for preschool and primary students. The curriculum is rated as one of the most successful and recognized Math programs in the world. So for working parents, enrolling their kids into curriculums or programs like SAM Singapore Math could help kids fulfill their goals.
  1. Giving Rewards
This is probably the most common way to motivate kids. Kids are usually captivated by the rewards they could get from doing or achieving something. And this could also be a good way for you to motivate your child to keep their New Year’s resolutions.   For instance, if your kid loves Math, you could motivate him or her to achieve higher scores in Math subjects and afterward give them manipulative gifts. This is hitting two birds with one stone. You motivate them to get higher grades, plus you provide them with gifts or toys that could further enhance their Math skills. Only make sure that the reward should motivate them, and not distract them.   If adults have difficulties in fulfilling their New Year’s resolutions, kids will surely have difficulties too. But as long as we are there to help them be on track, the kids will in no time be able to fulfill them.
