Our children frequently find it hard to understand Mathematics since it is abstract. However, we need to live with this “scary” subject in our life because it is part of everyday living. That is why as parents, we should encourage our kids to learn numbers and develop them as they grow up.
As a teacher who is also a parent, I personally recommend teaching Singapore Math, its programs, and curriculum, to our children. This is a somewhat different breed of lesson in math because it brings ease to our way of teaching. Are you now ready to find out what Singapore Math is?
Singapore Math is a Singaporean program developed in 1982 that uses the philosophical method and CPA approach (concrete, pictorial, and abstract). The concrete part is where we can show concrete objects to demonstrate math. The pictorial stage is through visual images or representations and the abstract part is where we can help them in learning how to solve mathematical problems. Our kids will not only learn what it is but also the reason why it is being taught.
How Can We Teach Singapore Math to our Kids?
We notice that our kids nowadays are fond of gadgets and other online applications. Even if some are educational, others often distract them from learning so it is really difficult to teach them. But as Singapore Math is different, we can master the CPA approach and entertain them while learning.
We can use their favorite things in the concrete part, favorite cartoon characters in the pictorial phase, and a somewhat story-telling way of teaching in the abstract part. For me, teaching kids is like acting as if you are one. You should learn how their world revolves.
But most importantly, as a parent, you must be the first one to know what SAM Singapore Math is, its history, and its curriculum. Like others, it is well-developed and comes with textbooks and teacher guides. We should know how to use it well and how can our kids be benefited.

Even if your kids are home-schooled, in private or in public schools, every one of them can attain mathematical skills with SAM Singapore Math. Aside from the fact that they will enjoy and find it easy to learn, our kids will also know why they should learn it in the first place. It is in an in-depth and progressive way that teaches the kids to know the deeper meanings and develop them in real-life situations.
